Joseph Hodge

Joseph Franklin Hodge, 80, Over Cheat, Morgantown, passed away on Monday, December 24, 2018.  He was born in Morgantown, on March 28, 1938, and was the remaining and youngest son of the late Sav-Re Hodge and the late Etta (Adelsberger) Hodge.

He was  retired from the City of Morgantown.  Joseph will also be remembered for working at various gas stations:  Johnny Morris, Harold Ralston and Jordon’s.   He was known to tell stories of caddying at a young age and very much enjoyed talking to many customers of the Ashbrooke “Corner Store” in the mornings.

Joseph was a member of the Cheat Lake United Methodist Church and was an original member of the Cheat Lake Volunteer Fire Department, serving as Captain.  He also served as a member of Morgantown Union Lodge No. 4, A.F.&A.M. and a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, Valleys of Morgantown and Wheeling.

He is survived by daughter, Betty Phillips and husband, David; grandchildren, Jason, Joseph, and Cassandra Phillips;  great-grandchild, Remmington; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sally and Jim Pickenpaugh; nieces and nephews, Kim Greene and husband, Nathan, Stacy Croston and husband, Paul, Sharon Bean, Keith Bean and wife, Leigh Ann, Doris Dailey and husband, Bill, Debbie Jones and husband, Gary, and Matthew Hodge, of Manassas, Va.; also many great-nieces and nephews, Jonathan and Alexa Greene, Kylie and Spencer Croston, and many others.
He cherished his family and loved everyone dearly…loved each day and always told everyone, “It will be alright!”.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Ella Jean Hodge; by his siblings, Laura Belle Virginia, James Lloyd, Sav-Re, Henry Arnold, Nettie Kathleen, Charles Arlington, William Francis, George Washington and Mary Louise.

Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home from 4 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 27, and from 10 a.m.  on Friday, Dec. 28, until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Shawn Weaver officiating.  Interment will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Westover. The Morgantown Union Lodge #4 AF&AM will conduct ritualistic masonic services at graveside.
