Library branches will be closed Dec. 24-25 and Dec. 31-Jan. 1

MORGANTOWN — Happy Holidays from the staff of the Morgantown Public Library System. Just a reminder that the libraries throughout the system will be closed on Monday and Tuesday for the Christmas holiday. The Morgantown Public Library System will also be closed Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 for the New Year’s Day holiday. The libraries will reopen at their regular times on Wednesday and Jan. 2.

Be sure to visit your local library over the holiday break. The main library located in downtown Morgantown has undergone many changes throughout the past year or so. Our young adult collection has moved to the second floor now and has a reading area designated for young adults only. New fiction books are now located on the first floor on the wall next to the elevator and on the way to the children’s section. Check out the new toys and kiddie furniture in the children’s area.

Don’t forget about the branch libraries located throughout Monongalia County. Arnettsville, Cheat Area, Clay Battelle and Clinton District public libraries are all smaller versions of the main library and offer most of the same services provided by the main library. All branch libraries offer free parking and easy access.

Have a child at home who hasn’t started kindergarten yet? Be sure to ask about the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program at any of the libraries throughout the county. This program promotes good reading habits that will help prepare your child for entering kindergarten and learning to read.

Finish up the year with a free program or two offered at the Morgantown Public Library. Theater Thursday will take place at 1 p.m. Dec. 27. Join us for a free viewing of the new DVD release of “Smallfoot.” All children in attendance will receive free refreshments and a free book.

Read to Rover takes place at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 27. Sign your child up to read to a trained therapy dog. Call the library at 304-291-7425 to reserve a reading time slot for your child.
