Reedsville works on town ATV ordinance

REEDSVILLE –  Reedsville Council is working to amend its  ordinance governing the use of all terrain vehicles (ATV) and utility vehicles in town.
Council has received a number of complaints about ATVs, side-by-sides and mini trucks driving through town. At an earlier meeting, Mayor Jason Titus said Officer Paul Rowan suggested the person driving the vehicle should have a confirmed farm and have a farm use tag and a triangle on the vehicle.
The amendment would allow farm vehicles to travel on the main routes but not on city streets.

Councilwoman Britney Titus suggested  the vehicles  should only be allowed on the streets during daylight hours.
“Even with lights they are not as visible as another vehicle,” she said.  “I’m not suggesting putting a time on it just daylight hours.”

Titus said he would type a copy of the proposed ordinance and bring it for council to review.  He said after council approved it he would send the proposed ordinance to town attorney Mark Gaydos for  review.

Council also voted to appoint Councilmen Jim Wagner and Scott Williams — who were not at Monday’s meeting —  to the Safety/Loss Control Committee.  Titus said the committee will meet quarterly to discuss the safety policy statement and meeting times.

In other business, council voted to send a third letter to an employee about  not returning uniforms.  Council received a $234.72 bill from Cintas, the company that supplies the uniforms.  Titus said if the employee does not pay the bill or return the uniforms council will take legal action.

Council also went into executive session to discuss personnel.

The next meeting of Reedsville Council will be  6:30 p.m. Dec. 10.
