Veterans Day 2018: Free meals and more for vets, active military

A look at Veterans Day activities happening in Monongalia and Preston counties:

  • The Preston High veteran’s breakfast will begin at 8 a.m. Nov. 9. Veterans will then participate in a school wide assembly. RSVP for breakfast by calling John Barkley at Preston High, 304-329-0400.
  • Clear Mountain Bank, at the Pierpont exit, will have a flag raising at 9 a.m. Nov. 9.
  • Morgantown High School will hold their Veterans Day program at 9 a.m. Nov. 9.
  • Trinity Christian School will host a Veterans Day Program 10-11 a.m. Nov. 12. Veterans and their guests are welcome attend this community event designed to honor the men and women who have served our country. Reservations are required. To RSVP call Trinity Christian School at 304-291-4659 by Nov. 9.
  • The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9916 will host a Veterans Day Ceremony at 11 a.m. Nov. 10.
  • Belgian waffles from an authentic family recipe will be served free to all veterans Nov. 11, at the Szilagyi Center in Rowlesburg. Service will begin at 1 p.m. and continue until the dough is gone. Fruit topping, whipped cream and syrup toppings will be on hand. Non-veterans can eat for a donation. The World War II Museum will be open to anyone who makes a donation. A short video, “Overview of U.S. Military Conflicts,” will play continuously in the auditorium. Info: rowlesburg.org.
  • Colonel Rowan VFW Post 2345 and its Auxiliary will serve breakfast free to veterans 10 a.m. until noon Nov. 11 in Tunnelton. A service will follow at the Honor Roll, on W.Va. 26 in Tunnelton, at 2 p.m. The Preston County Honor Guard will lead the memorial service. There were be three drawings at the Honor Roll as well, for his and her handguns, $2,000, and a designer purse and handbag. Tickets are available by contacting Bill at 304-568-2188.
  • There will be a Veterans Day Ceremony at 11 a.m. Nov. 12, at the Mon County Courthouse Square.
  • The annual Veterans Day parade will take place at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 12. Lineup for parade members will begin at 5:30 p.m.
  • Suncrest Elementary will host a Veterans Day event from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Nov. 13.
  • Stewartstown Community Building is hosting a Covered Dish Veterans Dinner at 6 p.m. Nov. 10, in honor of the veterans in the community. This free dinner is open to the public. For information, call 724-505-1927 or email StewartstownCommunityBuilding@gmail.com.
  • Texas Roadhouse invites veterans and active members of U.S. military to enjoy free lunch from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Nov. 11. All veterans, including all active, retired, or former U.S. military, can choose one of 10 entrees from our special Veterans Day menu. Proof of service includes military or VA card, or discharge papers.
  • Morgantown High School will hold its Veterans Day program at 9 a.m. Nov. 9.
  • Brookhaven United Methodist Church will host a Veteran’s Day Brunch from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Nov. 10. The cost is $5. Veterans eat free. Proceeds will benefit Operation Welcome Home.
  • Amedisys Hospice will host Veterans Day services at Village at Heritage Point at 9 a.m. Nov. 9, at Madison Nursing Home at 2 p.m. Nov. 9, at Sundale Nursing Home at 10 a.m. Nov. 12 and at Morgantown Health and Rehab 2:30 p.m. Nov. 12.
