Morgantown getting better at right time

MORGANTOWN — Through their own projections, Morgantown High coaches are expecting to be ranked No. 12 when the final state playoff pairings are announced in two weeks.

Whether the Mohigans are the 12th-best team in Class AAA is still up for debate.

With Morgantown starting to get healthy again on defense and on offense with receiver Preston Fox returning last week, it’s possible the Mohigans could be underrated.

“Having Preston back is a big confidence boost for our offense,” DeFelice said. “Guys are starting to get going again. We could be a lot higher than 12, but with the schedule we played and everything we went through, that’s just where we finished.”

University, which entered the game ranked No. 13 in the state, earned two bonus points this week after wins by Parkersburg South and Buckhannon-Upshur, is also projected to make the playoff field of 16 teams, but it could be as the No. 15 or No. 16 seed.
