Police seek suspect in armed robbery at Rite Aid

MORGANTOWN — Morgantown police are investigating an armed robbery committed at the Rite Aid Pharmacy at 381 Patteson Drive and are seeking a suspect who fled the scene.

According to a press release, officers responded to a report of the crime at about 9 p.m. Oct. 17.

The suspect, described as a roughly 6-foot-tall black man weighing about 160 pounds, wearing a black toboggan, bulky green sweatshirt, black sweatpants, and armed with a semi-automatic handgun, entered the pharmacy area. The suspect reportedly displayed the handgun and demanded prescription medications.

After the victims provided the suspect the demanded medications, he fled foot to the rear of the shopping center.

Chief Ed Preston said MPD is not releasing more information on the robbery at this time.

No injuries were reported and the case is under investigation.

He said Rite Aid’s staff acted correctly during the robbery. During a robbery, victims should comply with instructions from the robber and not put themselves at risk, Preston said.

Victims should get the best description possible and note what clothes the robber is wearing and look for any tattoos, jewelry, scars, license plate number and direction of travel when the suspect leaves.

Anyone with information or who may know the suspect is encouraged to contact the Morgantown Police Department Detective Division at 304-284-7522.
