Joseph Retton

Joseph Retton, 87, of Fairmont, passed away October 10, 2018, at J.W.  Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. He was born June 9, 1931, in Grant Town,  the son of a coal miner and devoted mother, the late Joseph and Rose Retton.
Joe was a member of St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, in Fairmont, and was employed by the Marion County Board of Education and Fairmont State College.
Joe adored his wife of 54 years, Nancy Retton, who preceded him in death.
Coach is survived by his son, David Retton and daughter-in-law, Angie Retton; grandchildren, Maggie, Lucas, and Trent Retton, all of Fairmont; one brother, Dick Retton, of Mansfield, Ohio, and two sisters, Teresa Kuretza and Mary Egress, both of Fairmont.
In addition to his parents and wife,  he was preceded in death by a son, John Joseph Retton, and brother, Sam Retton.
The family will receive friends at the Fairmont State University Feaster Center, Joe Retton Arena, from 4 – 8 p.m.  on Sunday, Oct. 14,  and from noon on Monday, Oct. 15, until 8 p.m. Friends and family will meet at Domico Funeral Home,  in Fairmont, 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 16,  to proceed to St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. with Father Joseph Konikattil as celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, in Fairmont.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Joe Retton Scholarship – Fairmont State University Foundation, 1300 Locust Avenue Fairmont, WV 26554.
