Prep roundup: MHS’s volleyball team rallies back to defeat Parkersburg South

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — After dropping the first set 25-22, Morgantown High’s volleyball team rallied to defeat Parkersburg South High in straight sets (25-15, 25-16 and 25-20) in the OVAC semifinals Tuesday night.

Sage Halbritter and Madison McDonald led the Mohigans in kills with 14, Abbey Paczek recorded 10, and Alayna Corwin had 19 assists in the win.

MHS (16-3) will play in the OVAC championship at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Union Local High (Ohio).

Warren (Ohio) 3, UHS 2

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — University High’s volleyball team was playing from behind early after dropping the first two sets (31-29 and 25-21) to Warren High (Ohio) on Tuesday night.

The Hawks managed to win the next two sets by scores of 25-22 and 25-17, but finally ran out of gas as Warren took the fifth and final set by a score of 15-13.

Lauren Huggins led UHS in assists with 30. Ashten Boggs led the team with 20 kills and Olivia Kaddar wasn’t far behind with 10.

UHS will play again Thursday at Buckhanon-Upshur High. JV teams will start at 6 p.m., and the varsity will follow.

Clay-Battelle 2, Valley (Wetzel) 1
Clay-Battelle 2, Cameron 1 (tri-match)

Cameron, W.Va. — In a tri-match in the OVAC consolation bracket, Clay-Battelle High’s volleyball defeated both Valley (Wetzel) High and Cameron High — both matches in three sets.

Alexis Pride led the way for C-B (11-7) with nine aces and 30 assists, Lily Currence recorded nine digs and Hailey Carreon had 23 kills.

The Cee-Bees will play again at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Valley (Wetzel).

Frontier (Ohio) 0

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — In the OVAC semifinals, Trinity Christian’s volleyball team had no trouble, defeating Frontier High (Ohio) in three sets by scores of 25-18, 25-16 and 25-22.

Morgan Mullens led the Warriors with eight aces, six assists and seven kills. Kate Dlugos recorded eight aces, Paige Dixon had nine assists, Rachel Rosen had six assists and six blocks, Reagan Sharp had seven blocks and Jaclyn Smith tallied 18 digs in the win.

Trinity (17-2) will play again at 7 p.m. Wednesday at South Harrison High in Tygarts Valley.
