MORGANTOWN — The Monongalia County Commission made changes to how funds from the transit and library levies are distributed during a brief regular Wednesday meeting.
County Administrator Rennetta McClure explained that previously, revenue generated through the transit and library levies was being distributed directly from the county’s tax office to Mountain Line and the Morgantown Public Library.
County officials learned during a recent training session that the practice was not in line with the procedures set forth by the state auditor’s office.
The commission voted Wednesday to create two new checking accounts. Going forward, the commission will need to request disbursement of the funds through the county clerk’s office.
The transit and library levies were among four five-year levies passed by voters in May of 2016. McClure said the method of distribution for the volunteer fire department levy and parks/trails levy was already in compliance with the auditor’s guidelines.
In other tax-related news, Chief Tax Deputy Kelly Palmer said the delinquent real estate tax list for the 2017 tax year will be published the next three Wednesdays in The Dominion Post.
Palmer explained the listing represents properties that may have a lien sold against them during the Nov. 5 tax lien sale. She went on to say that the names of anyone who has paid since publication of the list will still appear in the paper.
Lastly, the commission approved two requests for use of the courthouse square. The first, Oct. 13, for the Awaken the Dawn event; the second, Dec. 3, to allow 4-H to provide hot chocolate and sing carols during the city’s Christmas Parade.
