Justice boasts of tourism spending increase at Morgantown conference

MORGANTOWN — For the first time since 2012, tourism spending rose in 2017, according to Gov. Jim Justice. His appearance Sept. 19 capped off the Governor’s Conference on Tourism at the Morgantown Marriott at Waterfront Place.

The findings are a result of annual economic impact research released today, according to a release. From 2012-2016, spending dropped more than 14 percent. In 2017, it rose 3.9 percent; above national average of three percent. The release also said that the state’s tourism growth may be stronger in 2018.

More than 200 tourism-industry professionals are gathered at the conference.

Dean Runyan and Associates prepared and presented the research.
