Rowlesburg ox roast set for Monday as part of Labor Day festivies

MORGANTOWN — Rowlesburg will host its annual Labor Day Weekend Festival, kicking off Friday with the Firemens’ Parade at 7 p.m. There will be bands, fire trucks, the Buckwheat Festival Royal Court, floats, railroad trucks, antique cars and candy for the kids. Rowlesburg Park concessions will also be open.
On Saturday, the Alumni and Homecoming Dance is set for 8 p.m.-midnight at the Szilagyi Center, featuring music by The Classics. The dance is for those 18 and older. Cost is $15 per person or $25 per couple. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own beverages and snacks. Doors open at 7 p.m. For more information, call Kenetta at 304-454-9288.
The Rowlesburg High School All-Class Reunion will be from 1-5 p.m. Sunday at the Szilagyi Center. There will be a finger-food buffet for a cost of $6.
The weekend festivities will wrap up Monday at Rowlesburg Park with the annual ox roast. The roast beef is pit-cooked all night in the park on a fire of local hardwoods. Secret seasonings are added to the meat. The roast beef is served with complete dinners for $10 or on sandwiches for $7, from noon-6 p.m. or until it’s sold out. Burgers, hot dogs and fries will also be sold. A car, truck and bike show is also scheduled. Registration is from 9 a.m.-noon and trophies will be given by 2 p.m. There’s a $10 entry fee.
