MORGANTOWN — The University High boys’ soccer team started its season with a 7-1 win over Preston on Wednesday at UHS.
Joseph Biafora finished the game with four goals, while Mason Shockley, Riley Nett and Cam Mitchell scored for the Hawks, as well. UHS’s starting lineup saw limited action, especially in the second half, playing 25 different players. Goalkeeper Tim Bailey had three saves.
The Hawks host Parkersburg South at 6 p.m. today and Martinsburg on Saturday.

Golf
UNIONTOWN, Pa. — The UHS golf team fell to Laurel Highlands at the Duck Hollow Golf Course.
The Mustangs (224) were lead by Cain Basinger (40) and Megan Joyce (40). The medalist for UHS was Jackson Harper, who also shot a 40 on the front nine. The Hawks next top players were Levi Watson (51), Jack Giobbia (45), Sam Zeni (49), Alex Solomon (46) and Adam Fox (55).

UHS will be on the road for four matches, starting with North Marion on Monday, Preston on Tuesday, Morgantown on Wednesday and East Fairmont on Thursday.

WHEELING — The Mohigans were on the road at Speidel to take on Wheeling Park and Brooke on a Par 71, but MHS fell to the Patriots and finished ahead of the Bruins.
MHS was led by Jack Wiedebusch, with an 87. The rest of the Mohigans were Carter Cline (98), Andrew Seman (90), Jack Hudson (104) and Daniel Kourtsis (99).
