Morgantown gets 19 hits in win over Weirton

MORGANTOWN — The Morgantown Post 2 American Legion baseball team had a four-pack of three-hitters June 24.
In knocking off Weirton, 13-7, at Mylan Park, Post 2’s Quintin Smith, Andrew Berry, Caleb Taylor and Devon Neal all collected three hits in the game.
Many of their teammates weren’t far behind.
In what was an offensive showcase, Post 2 picked up 19 hits, four for extra-bases.
With a slim 4-3 lead, Post 2 did most of its damage in the third inning with eight runs.
Berry, Colton Matthews, Clay Maholic and Ethan Smith all belted doubles for Morgantown. Maholic had three RBIs.
Matt Renner picked up the win on the mound for Morgantown.
He went five innings and allowed eight hits and three runs. Renner didn’t allow a walk and struck out two.
Matthews, Maholic and Smith all added two hits for Post 2.
Morgantown (17-3) will host Bridgeport, at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
