Operation Welcome Home sends local veterans to Pirates game

MORGANTOWN — Veterans from the Morgantown area left from Mylan Park Tuesday evening to attend a Pirates Game in Pittsburgh.

Operation Welcome Home has partnered with the Elks for four years  to provide this event for the veterans. Operation Welcome Home is a local nonprofit that helps area veterans find jobs.
“Operation Welcome Home’s main mission is job readiness and job placement for veterans and their families, but we wanted to do something aside from that to help internalize that work/life balance that everybody needs,” said Brett Simpson, CEO of Operation Welcome Home.

Simpson said they came up with the idea  to get tickets donated to a  Pirates game with the Elks providing transportation.

The local organization got  the tickets and necessary people together to organize the event.

“It wasn’t hard to get folks to come out to a free night at the Pirates game,” Simpson said,

Everything was free for the veterans, unless they wanted to purchase something at the park.

“We definitely have to keep it going and it’s something that we look forward to. We are so just humbled and enthused to be able to provide this opportunity to our veterans and their families in the community,” Simpson said.
