Mason-Dixon Elementary hosts Links of Love fundraiser

BLACKSVILLE — Mason Dixon Elementary School held its annual fundraiser, Links of Love, which donates to organizations such as the American Cancer Society, Locks of Love and St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital.

Locks of Love is a charity that accepts human hair donations which provides hair for children who experience long-term hair loss.

“We have had several staff and family members diagnosed with cancer throughout the years and this is just one positive way to support them and let them know we care,” said Nicole Wright, a kindergarten teacher at Mason Dixon Elementary School.

As students and faculty members filled the gymnasium, classmates from all grades walked in together while carrying a chain of lnks, each link representing $1 donated to one of the selected organizations or local charities. The locks were then attached to one another while being placed around the school’s logo at center court.

Members of the community, along with a few students, sat in front of the audience to have their hair cut. As each tail of hair was sheared, the gymnasium would break out in cheers.

“Our Mason Dixon community never ceases to amaze us. When there is a need, the community comes together and helps,” said Wright.

When all was said and done, the community raised a grand total of $2,402.20.
