March Westin Company, Inc. hosts fishing rodeo at Chestnut Ridge Park

MORGANTOWN — Children and parents take part in the fishing rodeo Saturday at Chestnut Ridge Park. More than 100 kids turned out for the March Westin Company, Inc.-sponsored event, which aims to provide a fishing experience in a safe, controlled environment where children can learn and practice basic angling skills. The young anglers caught 141 fishes in 2 hours with prizes awarded for the largest, smallest, and most fish in each of three age groups. Mountaineer ChalleNGe Academy volunteers helped park staff with fish handling, measurements, and release. Each participant was allowed to keep up to six trout during the event, while releasing all other species. The largest fish caught was a 17.5-inch rainbow trout and the smallest was a 5-inch sunfish. Participants captured rainbow, brown, and golden trout as well as sunfish and bass species. This is the third year March Westin Company, Inc. has sponsored this free community event.
