BLACKSVILLE — Clay-Battelle needed to bat in just four innings to sweep a softball doubleheader from Tygarts Valley, which didn’t manage to get a hit in either game April 6.
Caitlyn Kassay pitched the no-hitter in the opener, a 16-0 C-B win, walking one batter and striking out nine in three innings.
Kassay also collected two hits and five RBIs, with a double and a home run.
Ashley Weber had a pair of hits and three RBIs, and Abbey Ammons smacked two doubles.
Ammons took the mound in the second game and was perfect for three innings, striking out eight in a 13-0 win. Ammons also tripled for the game’s only extra-base hit.
Ashley Weber knocked in three runs in that game for C-B.
BASEBALL
Morgantown 9, Wheeling Park 8: The Mohigans slugged three home runs in edging the visiting Patriots.
Davin Neal homered among his two hits and drove in two runs, Quintin Smith was 2-for-2 with a homer and two RBIs, and Caleb Taylor homered and knocked in two runs.Ethan Stewart earned the win with 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief for MHS (7-3), which plays a doubleheader today, at Steubenville, Ohio.
GIRLS’ LACROSSE
Morgantown 16, Preston 6: The defending state champion Mohigans got six goals and an assist from Kylie Bennett and ran their record to 5-0.
Madilyn Shaffer added four goals plus an assist. Tori Nass netted two goals, and Emily Verbosky, Giana DeVincent, Sarah Bartlett and Dannie Nicholson one each.
Madison Sharp contributed four assists, and Mia Wilson and Cora Hilling one each.
Madison Adkins (four saves) and Patricia Fahey (three) split the goalie duties for MHS, which plays in Charleston today, against Capital, at noon, and
St. Albans, at 3 p.m.
