Police presence to increase in preparation for St. Patrick’s Day

MORGANTOWN — Morgantown Police will increase its presence starting Mar. 16, and running through the end of Mar. 19, in preparation for Saint Patrick’s Day, Chief Ed Preston said.

The holiday, a celebration of Irish culture is held on March 17 each year – the day Ireland’s best-known saint died – and is often associated with excessive drinking and partying in pop culture.

Several downtown bars, such as The Bank, plan to open early Monday to celebrate the holiday once WVU students are back in town. Classes resume Monday.
