FAIRMONT – Chuck Warner, the longtime Fairmont councilmember from the city’s 5th District, died over the weekend, the city said.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time,” the city said in a release.
The 81-year-old Warner had served a number of terms on council over the years.
He first became known in the city as an on-air personality at WMMN radio, an AM powerhouse that broadcast for years from the ground floor of the Fairmont Hotel.
After radio, he parlayed his hobby of landscape and portrait photography into a business, owning and operating Warner Photography Studio on First Street.
Warner, also a licensed pilot, was known for his signature aerial shots he’d snap from the cockpit in the days before drone photography.
In council chambers, he was marked by his serious, measured approach to issues – which he tempered with a droll sense of humor and one-liners.
He is survived by Frances, his wife of 54 years.
At his request, there will be no funeral service.
“Chuck was an example of a life of service to his community,” the city continued in its statement.
The city now begins the process of seeking a person to fill the reminder of his term through November.
