MORGANTOWN – Here is a sampling of bills and resolutions introduced Friday, Feb. 19. Local lead sponsors and co-sponsors, if any, are noted.

  • SB 362, to create the Orphan Oil and Gas Well Prevention Act. Sen. Randy Smith, R-Tucker, sponsor.
  • HB 2604, to include vocational or trade schools in the Smart 529 West Virginia College Prepaid Tuition and Savings Program. Delegate Phil Mallow, R-Marion, lead sponsor.
  • HB 2607, to require voter photo ID for all elections for candidates for public office. Mallow, lead sponsor.
  • HB 2625, to provide for election-day registration of voters. Delegate Danielle Walker, D-Monongalia, co-sponsor.
  • HCR 5, to urge Congress to call a constitutional convention to allow a vote of three fifths of the state legislatures to repeal certain federal laws and regulation they deem to be too onerous or restrictive. Delegate Buck Jennings, R-Preston, co-sponsor.
  • SB 369, to create the Social Media Censorship Act, “creating a cause of action against interactive computer service providers who purposefully censor content that is not obscene, lewd, lascivious, filthy, excessively violent, harassing, or otherwise objectionable subject matter.”
  • SJR 8, dealing with impeachment, to put before the voters the Preserving the Separation of Powers Amendment that would clarify that courts are without authority to interfere with proceedings of the Legislature.
  • HB 2623, to provide a tax credit to encourage new teachers to remain in the state and teach for five years after graduation.
