MORGANTOWN — West Virginia’s statewide teacher walkout entered its eighth day March 5.

Monongalia County School Superintendent Frank Devno said he won’t order teachers and other service personnel to walk back in before they’re ready.

“Short of people walking the picket line, it would be very difficult, Devono said.

“You’d be pitting staff against staff, and I don’t want to do that.”

Stephen Wotring, who heads Preston County’s school system, agreed.

“All my decisions are based on school safety,” he said, “and if I have enough staff to adequately protect students.”
