WVU roundup: Golfers will tee it up at Furman

MORGANTOWN — After a disappointing finish in Florida this week, the WVU golf team looks to rebound at the 49th Annual Furman Intercollegiate, in Green-ville, S.C., this weekend.

The tournament will take place March 23-25, at the Furman University Golf Course. USC Aiken, Akron, Charleston Southern, Dartmouth, Francis Marion, Gardner-Webb, Harvard, High Point, James Madison, Marshall, North Florida, Presbyterian, Samford, Temple, USC Upstate, Virginia Tech, Wichita State, Winthrop and Yale make up the rest of the field.

Golfers will play one round each day on the par-72, 6,994-yard course.

Matthew Sharpstene, Max Sear, Etienne Papineau, Tristan Nicholls and Mark Goetz will represent the Mountaineers.

Sharpstene, who will play at No. 1 this week, ranks second on the team with a scoring average of 73.09. Sear leads the way for the Mountaineers with a scoring average of 72.77.

MEN’S SWIMMING

MINNEAPOLIS — Freshman David Dixon finished 42nd (1:46.44) in the 200 individual medley at the NCAA meet.

Today, Dixon swims in the 400 individual medley, and junior Jake Armstrong and redshirt junior Tristen Di Sibio begin their meet with the 100 breaststroke.

TENNIS

The Mountaineers return to Morgantown after a three-match road swing to face Duquesne, at 1 p.m. today, and Iowa State, at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Both matches will take place at the Summit Tennis Academy.

VOLLEYBALL

The Mountaineers will play four scrimmages this spring. The schedule:
