The WVU football team (7-5) plays Utah (6-6) in the Dec. 26 Heart of Dallas Bowl, at 1:30 p.m., at Cotton Bowl Stadium.

It’s the Mountaineers’ first Heart of Dallas Bowl appearance.

ESPN will televise.

WVU and Utah have met only once, as the Utes defeated the Mountaineers, 32-6, in the 1964 Liberty Bowl, in Atlantic City, N.J.

Utah, coached by Kyle Whittingham, lost six of its last eight regular-season games, but the Utes beat Colorado, 34-13, in the finale to secure bowl eligibility.

WVU dropped its final two regular season games, 28-14 to Texas and 59-31 to Oklahoma.

The Mountaineers are making their fourth straight bowl appearance.
