MORGANTOWN— After settling in for the 2017-’18 school year, data shows student enrollment for Monongalia County Schools has grown.

Addressing the board of education (BOE) Sept. 12, Mon County Schools Coordinator of School Improvement and Assessment Courtney Whitehead said the district’s student population has grown by 144 students.

During the Aug. 22 BOE meeting, days after school started, it was tentatively reported enrollment numbers stood at about 11,400 students, virtually the same as the previous year at the time.

However, that number didn’t include the pre-kindergarten classes that got underway after the grade schoolers. Deputy superintendent Donna Talerico said a lot of students transfer in after the school year starts around the Labor Day Holiday.

The number of enrolled students now stands at 11,834.
