STAR CITY — Star City Council unanimously approved a motion to start advertising for a contractor to pave North Main Street and Broadway Avenue.

Council voted on the paving work during a brief meeting Nov. 21. Mayor Herman Reid and councilors Dominick Claudio and Sharon Doyle were not present.

The project involves paving North Main Street from Clover Avenue to Saratoga Avenue, along with paving Broadway Avenue from Fairfield Street to Fenwick Street — all gravel roads.

Councilor Cindy Ulrich said the project is important for both residents who live on the mentioned streets and the city itself.

“The filth that is created from the gravel onto the houses, it’s bad,” Ulrich said. “It will be better also for city sanitation. It’s hard to clear a gravel road when it’s icy and snowy.”

With winter approaching, council said it is likely the project won’t begin until spring, but it hopes it will be able to secure a contractor within the next few months.
