CHARLESTON — The Senate passed its budget bill, SB 152, early in the afternoon March 8 and sent it to the House. In a rare occurrence, the bill passed 33-0 with no debate.

The Senate and the House both recessed, reportedly to discuss the relatively minor difference between their bills. Both Finance chairs expressed optimism a bill could pass by day’s end – a first, as sessions are typically extended for a conference committee to haggle over differences for several days. Last year’s budget special session extended into June.

The consideration in the House could take longer as possible Democrat amendments are being mulled.
