KINGWOOD — The Preston County Economic Development Authority (PCEDA) and other authorities lost some of their state funding in recent budget cuts.

The funding is funneled through the State Department of Commerce Development Office. PCEDA Director Robbie Baylor said economic development authorities weren’t alone in being cut.

The West Virginia Hardwood Alliance Zone, Chemical Alliance Zone, Polymer Alliance Zone, the development corridor, highway authorities and regional planning and development councils also felt the ax, she said.

“I know we all took cuts —  health care, welfare — [but] in some ways our cuts got overshadowed,” Baylor said. “You were hearing WVU and Fairmont State and Marshall and the educational institutions taking some parings. That’s where a lot of the emphasis was.”
