MORGANTOWN — Monongalia County Schools has seen a spike in bus ridership this year — particularly in the Brookhaven, Cheat Lake and Ridgedale areas.

In total, ridership is up by about 140 students this year. Jeff Meadows, administrative assistant to the superintendent, updated the board on the transportation situation in Monongalia County at the Nov. 7 board of education meeting.

Meadows submitted the county’s ridership numbers on Oct. 31. He said one reason for the increase is parents want to avoid traffic during pick-up and drop-off.
