BLACKSVILLE — Monongalia County’s public school students will surrender part of spring break, and attend classes into the first week of June, to make up for days lost during the recent statewide teacher walkout.

Students will go on spring break holiday March 29-30, and return for April 2-3, which had originally been scheduled as part of the break.

After that, class will be in session June 1 (a Friday), then June 4-6.

The county Board of Education approved the calendar changes during its regular meeting March 13.

“When I look at this, it’s probably the best of all possible compromises,” board president Barbara Parsons said.

Devono said students won’t be penalized if their families had already scheduled vacation outings for the original spring break or the first week of June.
