KINGWOOD — A Preston County man faces more charges, this time for escaping from a regional jail van and threatening jail officers.

Scott Allen Shahan, 42, of Kingwood, was charged March 8 with making terroristic threats and conspiracy by an inmate.

According to the criminal complaint by Preston deputies: He was in a regional jail van, being transported from the Tygart Valley Regional Jail to Monongalia County for a preliminary hearing, when he kicked out a van window and crawled out as they drove through Preston County.

Shahan told another inmate that Shahan’s son was going to “blow out” the brains of a regional jail officer because he hadn’t been allowed to shower the night before. The escape attempt happened within sight where Shahan’s son lives.

In Monongalia County, Shahan was charged Feb. 26 with child neglect, three counts of disarming an officer, domestic assault and battery on an officer. Police said he threatened to throw his child into Cheat Lake, removed all his clothes and fought with police. He was released on $25,000 bond.

On March 6, Preston deputies were called to Newburg, where a woman said he was breaking items inside the home and threatened to throw things at her and hit her. The deputy said Shahan was outside the home when he arrived but ran inside and took off all his clothes.

Bond in the latest incident was set at $500,000.
