KINGWOOD — A young mother with no prior criminal history was given probation March 2 on drug charges.

Ranae Dawn Murphy, 28, of Rowlesburg, pleaded guilty earlier to an October 2017 indictment for delivery of a controlled substance — four hydrocodone pills.

At the hearing, Preston Circuit Judge Lawrance Miller Jr. sentenced her to the maximum 1-15 years but suspended it for three years probation.

As conditions of probation, Murphy must make monthly payments to cover court costs and probation fees, attend Preston Community Corrections programs, receive mental health counseling, find a job or enroll in school, and follow other guidelines.

“I’m sorry. I’ve learned from my actions. I really want to be part of my son’s life,” Murphy said.
