CLARKSBURG — Reagan Sharp scored 16 of her 23 points in the fourth quarter Feb. 22, boosting Trinity Christian to a 52-39 win over Notre Dame in their girls’ basketball Region 2, Section 1 championship game.

The Warriors (12-12) lost twice to Notre Dame during the regular season, including by one point, but put the Irish away with a 26-12 surge in the fourth quarter.

They’ll learn their regional opponent Saturday. A win in the regional would send Trinity to the Class A state tournament.

Trinity trailed, 20-13, at halftime. Notre Dame’s Taylor Martino, who had four 3-pointers in the first half and eventually finished with 21 points, drew TCS coach Mike Baldy’s attention.

“We made a nice adjustment at halftime and started bringing Rachel Rosen, our height, out on screens to take Martino’s 3s away, and she hit only one in the second half.”

The Warriors had a nine-point lead at the time, and, “We had a gasp on the Trinity side,” Baldy said, but Sharp responded with an and-one 3-point play “and that was the dagger, I think. Reagan played with a ton of heart in the fourth quarter.”

She made all eight of her free throws, “and that was huge for us,” Baldy said.

Emily Saurborn, who finished the game with eight points, nailed two 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to contribute to the TCS surge.

But, “She fouled out with three minutes to go, and we had to survive without our second ballhandler,” Baldy said. “Reagan really took charge there.”

Rosen wound up with 10 rebounds for TCS.
