Prep roundup: Trinity beaten by Tucker County

MORGANTOWN — Trinity Christian heads into the Class A boys’ basketball sectionals on a down note, off a 71-63 loss to Tucker County on Feb. 21.

Corrick Ambrose led four Mountain Lions (11-10) in double figures with 18 points in the win.

Joel Robertson scored 21 points, Jo Zini 17 and Daniel Woods 15 for the Warriors (15-6) in their last regular season game.

“The turning point was, we just didn’t play our typical defensive game for four quarters,” TCS coach John Fowkes said. “We weren’t ourselves defensively.” The Mountain Lions “were able to get whatever shot they wanted whenever they wanted.”

Trinity plays its first section game at home, at 7 p.m. Saturday, against Gilmer County.

Clay-Battelle 54, Tygarts Valley 41: BLACKSVILLE — Gunner Brummage celebrated Senior Night with 15 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Cee-Bees (12-10) to victory in their last game of the regular season.

Fellow senior Noah Lemley had eight points. Chase Ammons added 12 and Seth Casino 11 for Clay-Battelle which plays its first sectional game at home Saturday, against Tygarts Valley again.

C-B coach Josh Kisner noted his team is 9-3 at home this year. For Wednesday’s game, he said the difference was, “Our shooting. We had percentage shooting. Took care of foul shots down the stretch, and on 2-point field goals we were right around 50 percent.”

Logan George topped Tygarts Valley with 11 points.


University 76, Brooke 48: Kyle Smith netted 20 points, Tyler Belt tallied 16, and Ryan Forbes and Ryan Niceler scored 10 each for the Hawks (10-5).


St. Francis 7s 56, Short Line 10: Charlie Heiskell had 19 points and Luke Hudson added 12 for the Trojans, in the quarterfinal game of the Mason-Dixon Conference tournament.

St. Francis 8s 68, Fairmont Catholic 11: Johnathon Moore had 15 points, Rocco Devincent 14 and Domenick Gabriele 10 for the Trojans, in the quarterfinal game of the Mason-Dixon tourney.
