KINGWOOD — Preston County Schools will be closed Feb. 22 and Feb. 23, according to a letter to parents and guardians written by Superintendent Stephen L. Wotring.

The letter, also posted on the Preston County Schools Facebook page, states that the decision was made at “the last possible moment in order to provide as much time as I could for our legislators and teacher and service organizations to resolve the issues. It appears that a successful resolution will not be reached in time to avert the work stoppage.”

It goes on to say, “We will simply not have the manpower to transport, feed, and safely operate schools.”

The Central Office will be open for business. And the lost days of instruction will be rescheduled.

“The rescheduled dates will be announced in the very near future,” the letter states. “Additionally, students will not report on Monday (2/26) as this is a scheduled professional development day for staff. We anticipate the return of students to school on Tuesday (2/27).

“All extracurricular activities will proceed as planned for Thursday and Friday.”
