WVU roundup: Wrestlers take on Edinboro

MORGANTOWN — The WVU wrestling team caps its regular-season slate with a pair of nonconference duals, starting with a trip to Edinboro, Pa., for a match against the Fighting Scots, at 7 p.m. Feb. 15.

The match will be available to subscribers at FloWrestling.

The teams meet for the 35th time since the series started, in 1977, with Edinboro holding a 21-11-2 lead. Last year, the Fighting Scots claimed a 27-10 victory over the Mountaineers. Most recently, WVU dropped a 24-9 dual to No. 12 South Dakota State.

Edinboro saw its three-match win streak come to an end last weekend with losses at No. 5 Oklahoma State and Oklahoma.

The Fighting Scots lineup features three nationally ranked wrestlers by Intermat: Sean Russell (No. 10 at 125 pounds), Korbin Myers (No. 17 at 133) and Billy Miller (No. 14 heavyweight).

The Mountaineers return home in three days for the Beauty and the Beast Meet, on Sunday, against Clarion.

The Mountaineer Fan Festival also will be held Sunday. The Coliseum Gold Gate will open at 12:30 p.m. Tickets for Fan Fest and the match are $5 for adults, $3 for youths and senior citizens and $2 for groups of 10 or more. WVU students get in free with a valid I.D.


The Atlanta Tipoff Club announced the 30 men’s players competing to receive the 50th Citizen Naismith Trophy.

Among them is WVU senior guard Jevon Carter.

Ten semifinalists will be revealed on Feb. 28. Four finalists will be named in mid-March. Fans can vote for their favorite player by visiting from March 19-30.

— The Big 12 Conference and ESPN announced that Saturday’s game between No. 20 WVU and No. 13 Kansas will tip at 6:15 p.m., instead of 6 p.m. ET, in Lawrence.

— The Big 12 is selling tickets for the men’s basketball tournament, March 7-10, at Sprint Center in Kansas City, Mo. Get them only at


WVU will play six scrimmages this spring, three at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. The schedule:
