Prep roundup: Trinity boys rout South Harrison

MORGANTOWN — Joe Zini scored a career-high 31 points for the second night in a row, this time on Senior Night, to lead Trinity Christian to an 83-40 boys’ basketball win against South Harrison on Feb. 14.

Zini, Cam Kellar, Kellen Alderman, Caleb Moats and Jacob Martin were honored at the home game for the Warriors (14-5).

Daniel Woods supported Zini with 18 points and 12 rebounds, and Alderman netted 10 points.

Trinity raced to an 18-3 lead after the first quarter and was never headed.

“We jumped on them quick,” coach John Fowkes said. “Our defensive intensity was just really good.”

Trinity next plays at 7 p.m. Saturday, vs. Cameron, in an Ohio Valley Athletic Conference tournament final, at Ohio University Eastern, in St. Clairsville, Ohio.


Clay-Battelle 50, Tygarts Valley 44: BLACKSVILLE — Haley Barr netted 14 points, and Abbey Ammons and Autumn Stewart added 13 each as lead the Cee-Bees (14-7) to victory in their regular-season finale.

Barr sank four straight free throws down the stretch to help C-B take and keep the lead.

Stewart, a freshman, “plays center for me,” coach Dave Joyce said. “She’s about 5-foot-5. She’s working her tail off.”

C-B plays a rematch with Tygarts Valley at 7 p.m. Saturday, as the host team in the first round of the sectional tournament.


South 8s 53, Suncrest 32: Alec Poland netted 20 points and Jalen Goins added 14 for the Stallions (11-2). Marquis Mauney scored 11 to top Suncrest.

Suncrest 7s 38, South 29: Sha-Ron Young topped the Seals with 15 points. Sabastian Dalton paced the Stallions with 14.


St. Francis 8s 37, Fairview 8: Amelia Summers scored 10 points to lead the Trojans in the second round of Mason-Dixon Conference tournament. Kerrington Peasak had 10 steals and seven rebounds and Kate Hawkins added seven rebounds for St. Francis (17-1).


Clay-Battelle High will host a Buckeye Donkey Ball game at 6 p.m. March 6, to benefit the junior class.
