INSTITUTE — Austin Forbes poured in 24 points and Ethan Ridgeway added 23 on Feb. 7 to lead University High to a 78-53 romp over South Charleston, at the Little General Shootout.

Forbes added five assists in “the best game he’s played all year,” UHS coach Joe Schmidle said. “He played a complete game. He did everything. He just played a great game.”

Ridgeway collected six rebounds as well, and Kaden Metheny added 10 points.

And “I’d like to mention how quality minutes Rodney Bucklew gave us off the bench,” Schmidle said. “He really gave us a big lift when Clay Bailey got in foul trouble. He did a nice job.”

The Hawks (15-1) had control of the game from the start, blowing out to a 24-11 lead after a quarter.

“The first 10-12 minutes of the game, we just completely dominated,” Schmidle said. “We played probably about as good as we can play. I thought we were very disciplined on offense; the kids did a good job of finding great shots.”

And when they got fouled, they made their free throws as well: 13 of 14 in the second half to finish
21 for 23.

The contest ended a seven-game road trip for the Hawks, who play at home on Friday, against Bridgeport, for the first time in 30 days, Schmidle said.
