CHARLESTON — FirstEnergy subsidiaries Mon Power and Potomac Edison have abandoned their effort to buy the coal-fired Pleasants Power Station from sister company Allegheny Energy Supply.

The companies announced their intention in a Monday letter to the state Public Service Commission.

FirstEnergy spokesman Todd Meyers said in an email exchange, “Allegheny Energy Supply will continue to evaluate other options for its competitive Pleasants plant. We have not made any final decisions or announcements concerning the future of our competitive generation plants, including whether they will be sold or closed.”
