CHARLESTON — The crystal chandelier that hangs in the Capitol dome above the central rotunda came down on Tuesday in preparation for the planned repairs to the dome.

Department of Administration spokeswoman Diane Holley-Brown said the chandelier was lowered and dismantled and is being transported offsite for storage and refurbishment by the contracted vendor, AccuBrite.

Holley-Brown said the dome project is expect to last approximately two years — technically 730 days.
