MORGANTOWN — Brookhaven Elementary school partnered with residents from the Village at Heritage Point and children from the Boys and Girls Club to paint bowls together for Empty Bowls Monongalia.

Trish Cendana, a volunteer for the Empty Bowls project said, “I think it’s a wonderful opportunity for our students to learn about community service and how they can contribute to other people in the community and do something fun at the same time.”

Cooper, the West Virginia Black Bear’s mascot, was spotted at the school to support the second year for this event.

“We’ve always donated soup for empty bowls, but last year we decided to take that a step further and do this intergenerational activity. And so the kids, I think, enjoy this activity with older adults and they certainly enjoy the activity with the children,” said Wilma Sternthal, a representative from the Village at Heritage Point.

Empty Bowls Monongalia’s annual soup and bread luncheon will be held later this month at Mylan Park.
