CUMBERLAND, Md. — Ethan Ridgeway, a 6-foot-2 senior, came close to a triple-double Jan. 30, collecting 30 points, eight assists and eight rebounds, and University High blitzed Fort Hill with a 57-25 second half on the way to a 94-48 boys’ basketball victory.

The Hawks led just 15-12 after a period.

“It was a close game in the first quarter,” UHS (12-1) coach Joe Schmidle said, “then I think our pressure got to them.

“This was the midpoint of our seven-game road trip. We played with a lot of energy, really played together. Our bench got to play a lot.”

Kaden Metheny tallied 24 points for the Hawks, and Austin Forbes contributed 11 points and five assists. UHS sunk 10 3-point baskets on 19 attempts and shot 57 percent from the field for the game.

UHS next plays Hedgesville, at 5:40 p.m. Friday, in the Big Atlantic tournament, in Beckley. Schmidle said the game will be broadcast on West Virginia MetroNews radio.

Jaden Stubbs led Fort Hill with 16 points.

Cameron 41, Clay-Battelle 30: BLACKSVILLE — Playing the Class A No. 10-ranked Dragons (11-3), the Cee-Bees (4-9) tried a slowdown that kept the game close.

That was until Cameron ran out a 15-5 edge in the third quarter and held on to win.

“That was part of the game plan,” C-B coach Josh Kisner said. “The last time we played them, they scored 86 points. We wanted to slow things down as much as possible.”

Gunner Brummage paced the Cee-Bees with nine points. Rey Scott and Colby Brown had 11 each for the Dragons.

Clay-Battelle’s next game is Thursday, at Hundred.
