MORGANTOWN — WVU President E. Gordon Gee said his is doing well after surgery for a heart issue and returned to a normal work load.

“I’m doing great,” the 73, soon to be 74, year-old said with the same vigor he has had since he returned to WVU four years ago.

Gee recently explained to The Dominion Post that he was in the Pittsburgh Airport during the holiday recess and he fainted. It was the first time something like that happened in his life. As doctor’s checked him following the incident, they found scar tissue around his heart. Gee said he has probably had the condition since birth.

Doctors installed an internal defibrillator, a device to help keep heart rates in check.

Gee admitted that the health episode was probably a lesson and now he will have to work to keep a better balance, and a bit more rest, in his life.
