Morgantown man charged with first-degree robbery

MORGANTOWN — A Morgantown man faces two felonies for trying to rob two people, according to court records.

The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department charged John M. Martin with first-degree robbery and daytime burglary. He was arraigned in Monongalia County Magistrate Court on Jan. 12 with bail set at $100,000.

According to his criminal complaint: At about 6:30 p.m. Jan. 11, police went to a Brookhaven Road residence for a reported burglary.

The victims said they found Martin in their residence. He came out of a kitchen area and pointed a revolver at them. They retreated to the front yard and Martin followed, holding them at gunpoint and demanding $200.

One of the victims took out his gun and pointed it at Martin. The suspect then put his gun in his front pocket and walked up the street.
