MORGANTOWN — After leading the WVU golf team at the Ka’anapali Collegiate Classic in November, freshman Matthew Sharpstene was named the Big 12 Golfer of the Month.

It marks the first time in program history a WVU golfer was honored by the Big 12. The program resumed varsity competition in 2015, following a three-decade absence.

Sharpstene shot a 210 and tied for 18th overall.

The Mountaineers will resume play Feb. 4, against Penn State.
