MORGANTOWN — WVU Hospital officials are considering locations for a possible 800-car parking garage and hope to break ground early next year.

According to WVU Medicine Spokeswoman Amy Johns, there are three or four places under consideration for the garage. The group is still exploring options while it waits on an exemption from the Certificate of Need process from the state’s Health Care Authority.

The organization plans to make a location decision in the next month, according to Johns.

This month, the group filed with the authority for exemption for a Certificate of Need. According to a letter, the request is because the project is not related to health care. A Certificate of Need is required for many capital projects at medical facilities in West Virginia.

The document lists Van Voorhis Road as a location, though it offers no further specifics. It states the garage is for employee use.

The hope – if the authority grants the exemption– is to start construction in January and finish in December 2018, according to the letter. There is no cost listed for the project.
