MORGANTOWN — “We do need something, just not this.”

In just a few words, Scott Copen, an engineer with Cheat Lake Engineering, captured the overall feeling of much of the public feedback offered Nov. 29, as the county commission held morning and evening comment sessions on a set of proposed subdivision and land use regulations.

Both sessions were well-attended compared to normal commission crowds, and both sessions heard a majority of speakers voice opposition to the law as proposed.

Many of the speakers who rose in opposition voiced a consistent list of concerns, primarily that the 111-page draft law was over burdensome and would drive up the cost of development, stifling an already thin housing market.
