MORGANTOWN — A former MHS speech and drama coach pleaded guilty to two felonies, including one for sexual assault on a former student.

Daren Bieniek, 48, pleaded guilty to distribution and exhibiting material showing minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct and third-degree sexual assault. He entered his pleas to both counts during a Nov. 29 hearing in Monongalia County Circuit Court.

Bieniek was a parent volunteer in the Speech and Drama clubs at MHS, where the girl attended school.

The relationship was ongoing, and Mon County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Jennifer Stevens said the victim was not cooperative in the prosecution of the case.

Bieniek also asked a juvenile victim to send him a video of her preforming a sexual act, which she did, Stevens said. When police were investigating the case, they found additional images that he took in his home of other, unknowing juveniles.

Bieniek also made the request to have his bond modified so he could talk to the teen – he was not allowed to have contact with the victim in this case – and the victim said she was in full support of that request. Judge Russell Clawges said it was not his position to judge adults’ actions and granted the request.
