NILES, Ohio — At the very least, Will Benson is consistent.

A day after connecting on two home runs, the Mahoning Valley outfielder hit a two-run double in the eighth inning, leading the Scrappers to a 5-2 win over the West Virginia Black Bears on Aug. 27.

The Scrappers swept the three-game series with the win and now own a three-game lead in the Pinckney Division standings.

The Black Bears have 11 games remaining, beginning with today’s 7:05 p.m. game against State College (Pa.)

The double by Benson came in the midst of a four-run inning and gave the Scrappers a 4-2 lead. Later in the inning, Jonathan Laureano hit an RBI double, driving in Benson.

In the three-game series, Benson batted .333 with five runs scored and five RBIs.

The Black Bears, who were held to just three hits, went up 2-1 when Julio De La Cruz hit a solo home run in the eighth.

Felix Tati (6-3) got the win in relief while Blake Weiman (3-2) took the loss.

West Virginia starter Gavin Wallace went 5 2/3 innings and allowed five hits and one run.

The Black Bears have lost four straight and six of their last seven.
