Scrappers drop Black Bears into 2nd place, 6-5

NILES, Ohio (AP) — Jonathan Laureano scored the decisive run on a wild pitch in the fifth inning, as the Mahoning Valley Scrappers beat the West Virginia Black Bears, 6-5, on Aug. 25.

The win broke a tie between the two teams for first place in the Pinckney Division of the New York-Penn League.

Trailing, 1-0, the Black Bears scored five runs in the fourth inning, including a two-run home run by Sandy Santos, who also doubled in the game.

Mahoning Valley tied the game 5-5 in the fourth, when Gian Paul Gonzalez hit a two-run single.

Jesse Berardi singled three times, driving home two runs in the win.

Elijah Morgan (3-1) got the win with four innings of scoreless, one-hit relief while Nicholas Economos (2-2) took the loss.
