Hernandez, Black Bears beat State College, 6-4

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Raul Hernandez tripled and singled twice as the West Virginia Black Bears beat the State College Spikes, 6-4, on Aug. 23.

State College cut the deficit to 4-3 in the fifth, when Ricardo Bautista hit an RBI double, bringing home Scott Hurst.

After the teams traded runs in the sixth, the Black Bears added to their lead in the eighth inning. Brett Pope hit an RBI single, bringing home Hernandez.

Pope, Sandy Santos and Bligh Madris each had two of the Bears’ 13 hits, 12 of them singles.

Adam Oller (4-3) got the win in relief while State College starter Daniel Castano (7-3) took the loss in the New York-Penn League game. Blake Weiman retired the side in order for his first save of the season.
